On July 1, 2020, Tom and his longtime partner, Melvin So, were married in a very small ceremony at Tom’s sister’s home in Vancouver.

At the end of April, 2020, Tom was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia after a routine blood test. That blood test likely saved his life.
